Wood Preservatives

Preserving Market Dominance

KMG’s pentachlorophenol (penta) and creosote wood-preserving chemicals have played a critical role in the development of the nation’s transportation, communications, maritime and construction infrastructures. For more than a century, creosote treatments have been protecting railway ties, construction timbers and marine pilings from insect infestation and decay. For nearly as long, pentachlorophenol (penta) has been the coating treatment power generation and telephone companies use to protect their utility poles.

KMG supplies virtually all of the creosote the U.S. wood-treating industry uses, and is the country’s only producer of penta, which protects about half of all utility poles. We take pride in our dominant position in the market, and are particularly pleased that these wood-treating products perform such vital functions without creating demonstrable health risks or damage to the environment.
